Hey y'all it's me: Shalonda! I'm the owner of SUG (Sophisticated Urban Girl) Boutique. I'm a daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and [former] teacher. I love Jesus and my faith is extremely important in my life. I enjoy good food, laughing, live music, and traveling. I also enjoy shopping for clothes, shoes, bags, and accessories! As a teacher, I spend a lot of my time working. So, when I shop, I want clothes that are one: cute; two: work appropriate; three: can be worn elsewhere other than work.
Although I'm personally not big on trends, SUG started from my need to find "trendy" pieces that would fit into my lifestyle. Specifically, I was on the hunt for distressed denim that didn't expose my whole thigh! At that time, my favorite stores just didn't have what I needed. I knew there had to be other women in a similar position as me. My hope is to provide educators (and professional women) a place to shop that keeps style in mind, while also accounting for women's professional and personal life.

We believe that education is the key in the fight of ending systemic inequities. As SUG grows, our plan is to partner with alternative schools to teach students job and entrepreneurship skills.

It is important to be of service. Just like in our personal lives, supporting community organizations will continue to be part of our business model. Our vision is to give our time/person-power/or dollars to community organizations that we care about. As we grow, we are excited to be a brand that employees members of our community. Providing them with a livable wage and health insurance!

As a new brand, we're on the hunt for the manufactures that develop clothes that have high quality standards while also being stylish. We want you to purchase clothes with a great fit that hold up over time, which support our sustainability efforts.
