What’s Been Going On With SUG and What’s the Future of the Brand?
As a former high school special education teacher, education has always been important to me. When I initially opened SUG, I did it with the intention to grow it into this huge thing. Once "successful" and after opening my warehouse (my dream!), I intended to partner with schools to bring in students [to my warehouse] so that I could teach them work skills.
However, SUG didn't take off how I'd hoped. So, in February, 2022 -after three years of being in business- I decided to close SUG for good.
After closing, for some reason, I was feeling a lot of pressure about what I'd do next. However, it was important to me that I didn’t rush to the next business idea just to remain an "entrepreneur."
Since then, I've been figuring out my next move. Should I start a new business? Should I go back to work?
One thing I knew for certain was that, whatever I did next, had to be something that's meaningful for me.
Truthfully, in my efforts to get SUG off the ground, I kinda lost sight of my original intention. To start a business of purpose. I was so focused on figuring it out that I lost sight of why I started a business in the first place. I won't make that mistake next time around.
As I mentioned, I've wrestled with starting a new business or returning to work. I feel like an entrepreneur at heart. However, I also appreciate a guaranteed paycheck & health insurance! During these last few months, no matter what venture I’ve considered, I always came back to the fact that I want to work with youth- especially youth at-risk.
I'm very interested in teaching youth job skills, providing them with job opportunities, and teaching them entrepreneurship skills. I want my next venture to be focused on those things.
What does all this mean for SUG?
Because I may be able to utilize the SUG site for my next venture and there’s still plenty of inventory to be sold, I will leave the site active (if I close it, I lose all data).
However, at this time, I won’t add any new apparel. But, I will continue blogging regularly on the SUG website and rotating the homepage seasonally.
